Acute Kidney Stone Pain (Renal Colic)

Kidney stone pain (renal colic) causes severe flank pain which can radiate into the groin. While many people will have to go to the Emergency Department for treatment, a proportion of people can be managed in the community. Your GP can order a CT scan, the best test to diagnose ureteric stones. From here we can give advice about management. Many stones will pass spontaneously without needing any treatment. We provide a full stone management service, including investigations for causes of stones as well as surgical management for stones that do not pass. Your GP can refer you, or you can contact the rooms if you have had a CT scan in the community.
