Our People

André Westenberg FRACS

André attended Otago University where he completed a degree in Botany, specialising in phycology (seaweeds), prior to studying medicine. He got his FRACS(Urology) in 2000 after fellowships in endourology and female and reconstructive urology at the Institute of Urology, University College Hospitals, London.

HIs main field of practise is in uro-oncology, managing prostate, kidney and bladder cancer. He has performed well over 1000 radical prostatectomy surgeries and over 100 cystectomy procedures. He also maintains a keen interest in the treatment of both male and female urinary incontinence and is a member of both the oncology and female urology Special Advisory Groups of the Urological Society of Australasia.

He has a strong interest in urological education being a director of the Coromandel Urology meeting for over 10 years and is a past chairman of the New Zealand section of the Board of Urology. He is the Urology section editor for Research Review.

Outside of urology André is married with 4 school-age children. He is a keen tramper and his children are, somewhat reluctantly, also learning to be so. He enjoys travelling and reading biographies. He is (very) slowly working towards a BA in history and economics.
