Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction after Prostate Cancer Treatment

Erectile dysfunction is a known side effect of  any treatment for prostate cancer. There are a range of options available for treatment of this problem, and the success of these treatments depend on several different factors. These include;

1. The type of prostate cancer treatment

2. The age of the man

3. Erectile function prior to startig treatment

4. Other co-existing health conditions

5. Patient preference

There are 4 main types of treatment for erectile dysfunction after prostate cancer treatment. These are;
1. Oral medication such as Viagra
2. Vacuum devices
3. Intracavernosal injections
4. Penile prosthesis or implant

Treatment is tailored according to patient preference. Unfortunately more convenient treatment such as oral medications are often less effective after prostate cancer treatment, and more potent options such as injections are required.

At Bay Urology we have all treatment options available. We have if significant experience with intracavernosal injections, and tailoring this to get the best possible result for men. We also offer penile prosthesis surgery, which is an excellent treatment for men who have not had successful outcomes with other forms of treatment.
